The Ten Things series started out as a daily challenge to myself, inspired by an episode of the On Being podcast with poet Marie Howe. In this conversation, she describes an exercise she gives to her writing students where they are to write 10 observations from their day, without use of metaphor or simile. Just, what did you see today? This practice evolved to become a collection of my observations and thoughts of the world around me throughout the day. It is now such a part of my way of being, I’m not sure when or if I’ll ever stop.
